It is unanimously agreed that prepared foods are the focus of Tesco’s new effort in the US. And it is known that chains such as Whole Foods and Wegmans do a fantastically important share of their business with prepared foods.
But the vast majority of US supermarkets are struggling with the category. The Pundit’s sister publication, DELI BUSINESS, went out to speak to the front line troops — actual deli clerks responsible for the category — to see what they thought was happening with prepared foods.

The food is of good quality.
It doesn’t matter if it is store-made or manufacturer-produced.
Price is not a problem.
